Ein besonderer Auftakt zu unserem 5-Jahr-Jubiläum: Mit einem Doppelkonzert eröffnet die argentinische Saxophonistin und Komponistin Camila Nebbia dieses Konzertjahr. free music forum hat sie eingeladen sich unserem Publikum etwas näher vorzustellen und dabei frei zu wählen, mit welchen Musiker:innen sie auftreten möchte.

Camila Nebbia ist 1987 in Buenos Aires geboren und spielt seit ihrem 8. Lebensjahr Saxophon. In jungen Jahren spielte sie in Rock-, Punk- und in experimentellen Bands, studierte dann am Konservatorium in Buenos Aires klassisches und Jazz-Saxophon und zugleich auch Filmregie. Sie hat sich von Beginn an den Lebensunterhalt als Saxophonistin verdient, zählt zur Jazz- und Avantgarde-Szene Buenos Aires und lebt seit 5 Jahren in Europa. Sie liebt es, Neues zu entdecken und zu entwickeln. Ihrem Spiel und Ausdruck ist daher ein reicher Erfahrungsschatz anzuhören, nie verlegen, nie ratlos, wohin es als nächstes geht und zugleich technisch versiert. Ihr Spiel reicht von kraftvoll sprudelnd bis hin zu präzise akzentuiert gesetzten Klängen.

A special opening for our 5th anniversary: With a double concert evening the Argentinian saxophonist and composer Camila Nebbia opens this concert year. free music forum invited her to introduce herself a bit closer to our audience by choosing freely her musical partners for this evening.

Camila Nebbia was born in 1987 in Buenos Aires and plays saxophone since the age of 8th. When she was young she played in rock, punk and experimental groups, later she studied in Buenos Aires classical and jazz saxophone at the conservatory and also film making. She made her living from playing since, was part of the avant garde and jazz szene of Buenos Aires. Since 5 years she lives in and works in Europe. She is open minded to all kind of projects, she loves to encounter new possibilities and developments. Her playing and expression reflects a rich experience, never shy, never at a loss where to go next and at the same time technical versatile. From powerful sparkling to precisely pointed sounds.

"Es gibt so viele Musiker:innen die für mich wichtig sind und für die Musik, die ich jetzt mache. Für diese Gelegenheit hier, habe ich beschlossen einige Künstler:innen einzuladen, mit denen ich in unterschiedlichen Kontexten arbeite. Musiker:innen, mit denen ich es liebe zu spielen und weiterhin Musik machen möchte.

Marta Sanchez (Klavier) und ich spielten zum ersten mal im Duo vor eineinhalb Jahren und seither hatten wir die Gelegenheit im Duo, Trio und Quintet aufzutreten. Zusammen mit María Grand haben wir auch unser Label Lilaila Records gegründet. Ich liebe Martas Art zu improvisieren und die Art wie die Musik sie durchströmt. Sie inspiriert mich tief, als aussergewöhnliche Pianistin, die sie ist und als Mensch.
John Edwards (Kontrabass) und Mark Sanders (Schlagzeug) habe ich 2024 auf einer Tournee in Italien mit Gabriele Mitelli kennengelernt. Ich war davor schon ein großer Fan ihrer Musiker, aber auf dieser Tournee war ich begeistert von ihrer musikalischen Tiefe sowie von ihrem großzügigen Wesen. Ihre Freundlichkeit, Offenheit, Intensität und endlose Neugierde für neue Klänge sind eine unerschöpfliche Quelle an Inspiration. Ich muss gestehen, das ist ein Traum-Trio.

Diese Musiker:innen kreieren mit solch einer Hingabe kompromisslos Musik, dass es mich sehr glücklich macht, sie zu diesem Konzertabend einladen zu dürfen."

"There are so many musicians I consider important to me and to the music I’m creating right now. This time, I decided to invite some of the artists I’ve been collaborating with in different contexts, musicians I love playing with and wish to keep making music with.

With Marta Sanchez (piano), we first played as a duo about a year and a half ago, and since then we’ve had the chance to perform as a duo, a trio, and in a quintet. Together with María Grand, we also started our label Lilaila Records. I love Marta’s way of improvising and the way music flows through her, she inspires me deeply, both as the outstanding pianist she is and as an incredible human being.
I met John Edwards (double bass) and Mark Sanders (drums) during a tour in Italy in 2024 with Gabriele Mitelli. I was already a huge admirer of their music, but on that tour I was not only amazed by the depth of their playing, but also by their generous spirits. Their kindness, openness, intensity, and endless curiosity for new sounds are a constant source of inspiration for me. This is a dream trio, I have to admit.

All of these musicians create uncompromising music with such devotion, I feel truly blessed to be able to invite them to this concert."

"Der Cellist, Klangkünstler, Improvisationsmusiker und Kurator Arnold Haberl aka Noid ist zentraler Akteur der freien Kunst- und Musikszene Wiens und präsentiert hier sein neues Trio: Mit der in Wien lebenden, italienischen Klangkünstlerin und Komponistin Isabella Forciniti. Sie ist eine gefragte Kollaborateurin zahlreicher lokaler und internationaler Musikschaffender. Ihr Repertoire reicht von rhythmisch fesselnden Beats, psychoakustischen Sounds bis hin zu räumlicher Klanggestaltung. Dritter im Bund ist der norwegische Posaunist Henrik Munkeby Nørstebø, der vor allem in der experimentellen Improvisationsmusik aber auch in Jazz-Ensembles aktiv ist. Er hat ein beeindruckendes Klangspektrum auf der Posaune entwickelt, oft auch mittels Elektronik erweitert."

He presents his newest trio: With the Vienna based Italien sound artist and composer Isabella Forciniti. She is a demanded collaborator of many local and international musicians. Her repertoire includes rhythmical fascinating beats, psychoacoustic sounds and spacial sound creations. The third musician of the trio is the Norwegian trombone player Henrik Munkeby Nørstebø. He is active in the field of experimental improvisation music, but also in jazz ensembles. He developed an astonishing sound range on his trombone, often expanded by the use of electronics."

"Der Pianist Alexander von Schlippenbach (1938) und der Saxophonist Henrik Walsdorff (1965) arbeiten seit vielen Jahren in unterschiedlichen Projekten zusammen. Zum Beispiel leiten sie zusammen das Quartett SW4 und treten als Duo auf. Alexander von Schlippenbach muss man niemandem vorstellen, der an kreativer Musik interessiert ist - er gilt als Pionier schlechthin. Der Grund, warum wir uns freuen, ihn zur Konzertreihe einzuladen, ist, dass seine Musik und sein Spiel noch immer konstant in Bewegung ist, nach Vorne zeigt und es bleibt aufregend zu hören, was als nächstes kommt. Wer Henrik Walsdorff und sein Spiel noch nicht kennt, darf sich darauf freuen eine grossartigen Saxophonspieler unserer Zeit zu entdecken. Er ist ein bescheidener Meister und echter Kenner von Schlippenbach's Musik. Jedenfalls eine tolle Gelegenheit, diese zwei Musiker in einem intimen, akustischen Rahmen zu erleben."

"István Grencsó ist neben Mihály Dresch und György Szabados ohne Zweifel einer der prägendsten Figuren der ungarischen Avantgarde-Jazzszene. Er arbeitete u.a. mit Peter Kowald, Tobias Delius, Peter Brötzmann, Ab Baars... - und doch ist seine Musik nur Insidern bekannt! Ich hatte die Ehre mit István in mehreren Projekten (Grencsó/Vandermark/Harnik/Kern & Grencsó/Vandermark/Harnik/Lytton, Grencsó/Harnik/Miklós) zusammenzuarbeiten. Sein Spiel und seine Kompositionen zeugen von einer kompromisslosen Haltung. István's ständige Suche nach Neuem ist stets gepaart mit einer großen Sensibilität des Zuhörens. Seine langjährigen Kollaborateure Erno Hock und Szilveszter Miklós gehören zu den engagiertesten und vielseitigsten Spielern der jüngeren Generation. Die spontanen Kompositionen und Reflexionen des generationenübergreifenden Trios bieten sowohl tiefe intellektuelle Erfahrung als auch die geteilte Freude an der Musik des Augenblicks. Alongside Mihály Dresch and György Szabados, István Grencsó is without doubt one of the most influential figures on the Hungarian avant-garde jazz scene. He has worked with Peter Kowald, Tobias Delius, Peter Brötzmann, Ab Baars... - and yet his music is only known to insiders! 
I had the honour of working with István in several projects (Grencsó/Vandermark/Harnik/Kern & Grencsó/Vandermark/Harnik/Lytton, Grencsó/Harnik/Miklós). His playing and compositions bear witness to an uncompromising attitude. István's constant search for the new is always paired with a great sensitivity of listening. His long-time collaborators Hock and Miklós are among the most committed and versatile players of the younger generation. The spontaneous compositions and reflections of this cross-generational trio offer both deep intellectual experience and the shared joy of the music of the moment. Not to be missed!
